Scientific Research:

The PSSD Network strives to provide support and funding for scientific research on Post-SSRI Syndrome/Post-SSRI Sexual Dysfunction, with the ultimate goal of discovering a cure or effective treatments for affected patients.

Presently we are actively supporting the research conducted by Dr. Melcangi et al. at the University of Milan. Additionally, as of February 2025, we are expanding our support to include the research of Dr. Ashley Monks at the University of Toronto, and Dr. Antonei Csoka at Howard University, Washington D.C.

Post-SSRI Sexual Dysfunction

A subset of people experience a debilitating condition known as Post-SSRI Sexual Dysfunction (PSSD) following the use of SSRIs, SNRIs and other SRI medications.

Common symptoms include, but are not limited to: genital numbness, a complete loss of libido, erectile dysfunction, vaginal dryness, cognitive impairment, anhedonia and emotional blunting.

Our explainer video delves into the substantial and enduring effects of this condition, as well as its impact on those who are afflicted.

DR. ROBERTO COSIMO MELCANGI

Professor in Endocrinology

“Despite the current efforts, more work is still needed to advance the understanding of PSSD in terms of diagnostic markers and therapeutic strategies.”

Dr. Antonei Csoka

Biogerontologist, Associate Professor in the Department of Anatomy at Howard University

“Post-SSRI Sexual Dysfunction (PSSD) and related disorders such as PFS likely represent types of iatrogenic epigenetic damage previously unseen in human history. On the individual level the consequences are catastrophic, and there may be population-level effects as well. Increasing our knowledge and understanding of these increasingly-prevalent disorders is paramount.”

“Once PSSD symptoms begin they can last for years and may even be permanent in some people.” … “Despite the public recognition of this condition by major government health authorities, the condition is still underrecognized by the medical community.”
